Scrumpy is a type of cider originally made in the West Country of England. Scrumpy can be dry or sweet, and is usually still rather than carbonated and is most often unfiltered and cloudy when poured. However this Scrumpy is lightly carbonated, and amazingly clear in the glass.
It is semi-sweet and has aromas of apple and spice, a dark straw colour and flavours layered with apple and pear. Although the sweetness lingers, there is a slight tart apple flavour on the finish.
This cider is packaged in a 1 litre resealable bottle and has 6.2 % alcohol.
I really like this cider and would recommend you try it.
Pair with apple pie, pastries, dried fruit or sorbet. Also a great cider to sip on its own.
I look for a safety seal, such as a clear shrink on this type of bottle. There is not one in this case.
Twin Pines Orchards & Cider House did not see an apple harvest in 2012. As such this cider was likely made from 2011 apples, giving this creation more time in the bottle.
It has been my experience when using this type of resealable bottle that the seal is inconsistent. It is possible for carbonation to be lost over time or when the product reaches room temperature. Because of this, it is impossible to be certain what level of carbonation the cider maker intended.
