Ungava Gin is named for the Ungava Bay, a vast area in the Canadian Arctic. It is part of the northern frontier where the Canadian tundra meets icy seas.
Six rare indigenous, Canadian botanicals, native to the arctic region, are handpicked in the wild during the short summer season, then infused into this handcrafted, authentic gin. These include Wild Rose Hips, Arctic Blend, Cloudberry, Labrador Tea, Crowberry and Nordic Juniper.
They say this unique gin will delight adventurous amateurs and connoisseurs alike, and I agree. This gin has a golden / yellow colour and is very smooth, fresh, floral and spicy with fruity, sweet, yet tart notes from the Crowberry and Wild Rose Hips. The Nordic Juniper brings a classically styled finishing touch of mentholated citrus.
The blend of botanicals are so intriguing that you will want to take extra time enjoying the summer aromas as they literally waft out of the glass. It is distilled in small batches to bring out the amazing aromas, flavours and colours of the botanicals.
Ungava Gin has body and style, with intense flavours that linger. This is truly a sipping gin that stands on its own. It also mixes well to create your favourite martini. It is packaged in distinctive 750 ml bottle and has 43.1% alcohol.
I highly recommend this Gin as a must have for any fine establishment and for the home liquor cabinet.
Pair with large green olives, pearl onions and ice. Also great with celery stalks, cucumbers slices, rose petals and cold winter nights.
This amazing spirit is currently available in Québec and Alberta and as I understand it will be available in Ontario at the LCBO in the spring of 2014.
